Need to sort before reloading
I found that the brass needed to be sorted before reloading. I found several .38 Special cases mixed in and worst of all about 10% of the cases were Hornady that were substantially shorter than the rest; about 1.25" for the Hornady vs 1.28” for the rest of the mixed manufacture brass. Needless to say, this would definitely foul up consistent crimps. Presumably the Hornady brass was original loaded with the Hornady FTX Leverevolution bullets which required shorter brass in order to feed in lever guns using the pointy bullets. Rather than trimming all of my brass to match or keeping the brass separated, I would up throwing about 10% of the brass I paid for in the trash can.
